1. This is my first time getting in trouble do I still need an attorney?
Absolutely, there are usually several options available for someone who has not got into trouble before however each option can affect your criminal record and impact other areas of your life such as license, jail time, fines, etc. It is important to hire an experienced attorney who will work through your case to meet your specific needs.
2. If the victim in the case does not want to press charges do I still need an attorney?
Yes, even when the victim does not want to press charges after the arrest, the state can and usually will proceed with prosecuting you on the charges. Our firm will fight to get the charges dropped and to protect your record.
3. Can I just talk to the prosecutor and explain my situation, will they understand?
This is not recommended. The prosecutor is the attorney for the victim NOT you or your loved one. Their job is to gather evidence and prosecute you or your loved one, when you “explain yourself” you are simply giving them more evidence to convict you. That’s why there is the 5th amendment, that is the constitutional right to not be a witness against your self so don’t throw this right away.

5. I love to argue why should I hire an attorney I can just defend myself.
It takes a lot more to handle a case than being able to argue. Judges get very frustrated and many times irate at people who want to represent themselves in a case. Most people make a fool out of themselves and lose their case because they don’t have a clue how and when to present their case, they usually lose within the first five minutes.
